Story
A group of cyclists from Canberra have decided to raise funds for the Vinnies Family Services program which provides outreach support services to families in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) that are currently at risk of, or experiencing, homelessness. The aim of the service is to support participating families to access and maintain safe, secure, independent and affordable housing. Services are provided in a form of case management and address individual factors contributing to the risk of homelessness, with a strong focus on the needs of the children and the family unit. Holistic, person-centred case plans utilise trauma informed approach, and support independent decision making through provision of relevant information and referrals, advocacy, positive role modelling and strengthening life skills. Eligible families are offered temporary transitional accommodation.
We rode our bicycles for 350kms from Canberra to Sydney on the 22nd and 23rd of April 2023

Vinnies Canberra/Goulburn (St Vincent de Paul Society)
The St Vincent de Paul Society offers “a hand up” to people in need by respecting their dignity, sharing our hope, and encouraging them to take control of their own destiny. We want to see an Australia transformed by compassion and built on justice. Vinnies provides a range of services in our communities, supporting people at risk or in emergency situations and breaking the cycle of disadvantage. Some of these programs support people at risk of and currently experiencing homelessness, people experiencing chronic and mental illness, youth and young adults who are disadvantaged and individuals and families in emergency situations. Vinnies Canberra/Goulburn operates in the ACT and it’s surrounds, from Lake Cargelligo to Eden to Goulburn and everywhere in between. The Society aspires to live the gospel message by serving with love, respect, justice, hope and joy, and by working to shape a more just and compassionate society.
